Heritage School - St. Patrick's School guided tour

Architectural & Cultural Heritage Conservation Awardees Open House
In partnership with URA

The URA Architectural Heritage Awards (AHA) was launched in 1995 to honour owners, developers, architects, engineers and contractors who have displayed the highest standards in conserving and restoring heritage buildings in Singapore. The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation were established in 2000 to recognize and encourage private efforts and public-private initiatives in successfully restoring structures of heritage value in the region.

In partnership with URA, selected awardees would be conducting guided tours during the festival for public to understand the architecture and history of the buildings, and the restoration effort behind these buildings.

Heritage School - St. Patrick's School guided tour

A school by the sea, was an apt description of St Patrick’s School at Katong. Since the 1970s, the land reclamation for what is today Marine Parade has pushed the sea away to the East Coast Park. St Patrick’s sits on a 6 hectare plot of land which was bought by the La Salle Brothers in 1897 and the original school building dates back to 1933. The school was well received by the British colonial authorities and also experienced the Second World War when the Japanese Air Force headquarters occupied it. St Patricks’ also served as the Australian and British hospital during the war. After the war, the Brothers returned and re-established the school to serve our nation-building needs. The school has served many generations of Singaporeans some of whom are prominent members of society. The Brothers are still living in their residence in the school.
